I started writing technical manuals in 1988. I was working for a German owned company in Atlanta, GA. At the time I joined them in 1985 they just brought the packaging machines in from Germany, delivered, and set up for customers. As the years progressed, they did more manufacture in the US. The Operator, Instruction and Parts Manuals came from Germany. There were poorly translated and difficult to read. Over the next 3 years I totally created new manuals that were easy to read. I used many photographs in all of the manuals making the instructions easier to understand.
The new manuals improved sales. The company's reputation for support and service improved 100%. I did classroom training on the machinery at 3 General Mills locations and a Nabisco location.
I wrote manuals for the next 3 companies I worked for.
Many people don't realize that proper documentation will sell machinery or equipment.
